Yasmin and Yaz Settlements
Women who used the birth control pills Yaz or Yasmin and suffered blood clots, pulmonary embolism (PE), deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or other side effects may be eligible to file a lawsuit and receive a settlement for their injuries. More than 12,000 Yaz and Yasmin lawsuits have already been filed on behalf of women who allege that they were injured after using the contraceptives.
Bayer Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer of Yaz and Yasmin, reported spending over $400 million in settlements for nearly 1,900 cases where women allege that the birth control pills caused blood clots. Bayer has more than doubled their reserve funds for Yaz and Yasmin cases since 2011. Drug industry analysts predict that the manufacturer will pay approximately $2.4 billion to resolve all of their Yaz and Yasmin cases.
In April 2012, the FDA ordered Bayer to strengthen blood clot warnings on their products. The manufacturer now must state that Yaz and Yasmin may triple the risk for blood clots on their warning labels.
