Kidney and Gallbladder Problems
The birth control pills Yaz and Yasmin may increase a woman’s risk of developing kidney or gallbladder problems. Multiple warnings by the Food and Drug Administration have alerted doctors and patients about serious kidney and gallbladder risks linked to the use of Yaz or Yasmin.
A 2011 study published by the Canadian Medical Association Journal found that there was a significant increase in the risk of gallbladder problems for patients taking Yaz or Yasmin. The Food and Drug Administration has also warned that the use of birth control pills like Yaz and Yasmin may permanently increase a woman’s risk of gallbladder disease.
Yaz and Yasmin may increase a patient’s risk of developing kidney problems. According to a warning by the FDA, Yaz and Yasmin should not be prescribed to patients with impaired kidney function, because they could increase levels of potassium in the blood, which could lead to serious side effects
Patients who suffered gallbladder disease, kidney problems or other side effects have already filed Yasmin and Yaz lawsuits against the manufacturers of the drugs. The FDA has announced plans to meet in December 2011 in order to review the safety of Yaz and Yasmin and determine whether to recall the drugs or take other regulatory action.
If you or a loved one used Yaz or Yasmin and developed kidney problems, gallbladder problems or other side effects associated with the use of these birth control pills, you may be eligible to file a lawsuit.
